Covid-19: Putnam Sees 512 New Cases, First Fatality In Several Weeks

Putnam reported the first COVID-19 death in several weeks as the county saw its 5,000th case confirmed in the past week as the Hudson Valley contends with the "holiday surge" of the virus.

Putnam County officials reported 512 new cases in the last week in the latest data released by the Department of Health, bringing the total to 5,045 cases out of 112,911 COVID-19 tests administered since the virus started spreading in early March.

There are currently 20 COVID-19 patients hospitalized, and the county is monitoring 401 active cases. The new virus-related death brought the total to 67 in the latest update from the Putnam County Department of Health.

A breakdown of COVID-19 cases in Putnam County, according to the latest information released by the Department of Health on Tuesday, Jan. 5:

Carmel: 1,862 (189 new);
Southeast: 1,111 (78);
Kent: 657 (40);
Putnam Valley: 560 (71);
Patterson: 472 (30);
Philipstown: 383 (104).

There were 134,360 COVID-19 tests administered in New York on Sunday, Jan. 3, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, resulting in 11,209 positive cases for an 8.34 percent infection rate.

There are now 8,251 (288 new) COVID-19 patients hospitalized across the state, with 1,357 in ICU and 843 currently intubated with the virus.

Since the pandemic began in March last year, nearly 26 million New Yorkers have been tested for COVID-19, with 1,028,362 testing positive for the virus. There have been a total of 30,648 COVID-19-related deaths reported statewide.
